High Efficiency Reed Bed System (grow your own HERBS)
Reed beds are an accepted method of applying a final polish to waste water that has received some sort of intensive cleaning process, either through a biological treatment plant (sewage treatment works), chemical or membrane treatment process.
A number of large reed beds have been installed on sites where solids and residual BOD have been an issue and although the bed size has been calculated on a recognised formula for a life expectancy of around 25 years, the beds are suffering from excess solids build up and blocking within 5 to 6 years of use.
The process of unblocking a reed bed is a messy and often difficult process involving the use of large digging equipment, considerable disruption to site and the significant danger of a discharge consent breach.

Greener Waste has developed the unique modular bed which offers distinct advantages over the existing traditional reed bed construction. The use of the modular design means that a bed is constructed in sections which allow maintenance at any point on the bed without affecting the integrity of the overall bed structure. The result is that if blockages occur in the future they are easy to remedy without the need for drastic re-structuring of a bed or interference with the overall site performance. |
